My Saphe shows a different speed than my car

Your car's speedometer can show up to 10% too much. This is due to a legal requirement for car manufacturers that speedometers must never show too little. This means that when your car shows 100 km/h, you may actually be driving at 90 km/h. This can make it difficult to maintain a precise speed.

Saphe retrieves the speed directly from your phone's GPS and displays your current speed. So if there is a difference between your car's and Saphe's speed readings, this is completely normal.

If there are significant fluctuations in the speed shown by your Saphe, this can be caused by an insufficient GPS signal.

Reasons for varying speed readings on Saphe

• Insufficient GPS signal
  Saphe does not contain a GPS itself. Therefore, you may find that the speed reading fluctuates significantly or updates slowly if the GPS signal is weak, for example if your phone is in your pocket or in a bag. Instead, try placing your phone on the dashboard or in a holder.

If your phone is positioned close to your Saphe and you still experience fluctuating speed, you can try the following:

Open the Saphe Link app. Here you can see the speed at the bottom left of the map.

• Scenario 1: The speed is now correct in both the app and Saphe:
  This indicates that a setting has been configured incorrectly. This is most likely because power saving is enabled on your phone.

  --> Try going to Settings on your phone, search for Battery and disable Power saving/Power-saving mode.
   

• Scenario 2: The speed is correct in the app, but not on Saphe:
  This indicates a fault with your Saphe or Bluetooth communication problems. First, try using another mobile phone. If the speed is now correct, there is nothing wrong with your Saphe.

• Scenario 3: The speed is also incorrect in the app:
  This may indicate that the GPS in the phone is the cause, in which case you may benefit from resetting the GPS.

  It is important to note that you should only reset the GPS—not the entire phone. 

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Android Automotive

When you connect your phone to the car's system, your phone may in some cases begin receiving location and speed information from the car's system. Errors in the car's software can in several cases lead to an incorrect speed reading.

Try disconnecting the phone from the car's system and see if this resolves the problem. On Android phones, there is a setting you can try: Go to Menu > Android Auto.

Especially for those driving a Ford

We have found that the GPS in Ford cars takes over from the phone's GPS, which affects the speed reading. 

To prevent this, you can:

• Go to Settings on your phone
• Select Apps > Android Auto > Permissions > Location
• Set the setting to "Never allow" or "Don't allow"
