When you take your Saphe on car trips in Europe, it is a good idea to know the local rules and laws regarding traffic alarms. Although Saphe is designed to increase road safety by warning about dangers on the road, legislation can vary from country to country. In some places, the use of traffic alarms like Saphe is completely permitted, while others have stricter rules that can result in fines or confiscation. Here we review the countries where you should be extra cautious, so you can drive safely and legally.
Switzerland
In Switzerland, it is not allowed to use equipment that warns of speed controls. Failure to comply with the rules can lead to heavy fines, which is best avoided. Therefore, it is recommended to turn off Saphe while driving in Switzerland, and to be completely safe you can remove it so it is not visible.
Germany
In Germany, it is illegal for the driver to use equipment that warns of speed controls. However, it is not illegal to own such equipment, and therefore Saphe products are also sold in Germany. You can drive legally with Saphe as long as the warning about speed controls is turned off.
France
In France, it is only permitted to warn about speed controls if companies like ours follow special rules and get the products approved. Unfortunately, Saphe is not approved in France and does not meet their requirements. We do not know whether fines are issued for using equipment like Saphe, but it is best to be cautious and refrain from using your traffic alarm there.
Turkey, Cyprus and Macedonia
In Turkey, Cyprus and Macedonia, it is illegal to warn about speed controls. Unfortunately, we have no information about the size of fines or the extent of enforcement in these countries. It is important to be aware of this and follow the local rules during your trip.
Austria
Traffic alarms must not be used to give precise warnings about speed cameras. General warnings about risk zones may, however, be permitted.
Belgium
As in Austria and France, it is illegal to give precise warnings about speed cameras, but general warnings about dangerous areas are allowed.
Before using your Saphe abroad, we recommend that you check the local rules.
